Shine On Beautiful

Family. Food. Beautiful Spaces. Healing. Travel. Living Free.

Hi world! I am Amy and welcome to Shine On Beautiful. The goal of my blog is to share my life’s passions && struggles. I love my family, discovering beautiful spaces, creating unique crafts, enjoying yummy food with wonderful people, continuing the heal my soul, and living like there’s no tomorrow.

A little about who I am…

I was raised in the foothills of Colorado (primarily Black Forest, Colorado near Colorado Springs). When I turned 18 I left home for school in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is where a piece of me will always stay. Long story short, my high school sweetheart, Colin, moved up with me the day he turned 18 (yes, I am a cradle robber as he says) and we got married 6 months later. Our journey to a healthier life began during this transition.

Fort Collins is known for being an environmentally friendly college town, with an upbeat nightlife, exotic cuisine, lots of beer, and beautiful mountains (although, after you’ve looked out your window for ten years and seen and lived the mountains in Colorado Springs, nothing really compares). I absolutely loved living in Fort Collins and it will always hold a piece of me.

Today, we reside in Wilmington, North Carolina with our three pups and I wouldn’t trade this city or this life for anything. We’ve had the amazing opportunity to live and see some incredible places, and some not so incredible places. These experiences make me appreciate our home so much more.

One topic I hold dear to me is promoting positive body image. I struggled with anorexia for 9 years and it wasn’t until 2013 that I received treatment (I spent the entire year working on myself and it definitely has paid off).

I am fully recovered from my eating disorder and have been since 2014; I couldn’t be happier! I’ve learned life is truly a blessing and something to enjoy each and everyday. Today, I am living free.

Hi – Wecome to my blog, but it is not vegan; not even vegetarian. You are likely to be disappointed in our omnivore diet. I try to get as many organic meat products as possible, as the conditions that Big Ag imposes on animals is appalling.

Definitely not disappointed! I believe everyone finds what works for them 🙂

Thanks for visiting my blog and the “like”.

I too try to eat a healthy diet. Although, I’m not a vegan, I could go meatless, except for seafood. Haha! Seriously, there is a lot of garbage in the food that the government feeds us. It’s killing us, literally. I love to garden. A wonderful way to avoid all those unhealthy additives that are allowed to pass in (and on) our food and labeled as “good” or “healthy”.

~ “Life is a Blessing”… We should enjoy the simpleness of it each day.

Hey there, thank you for visiting my blog, and the like. I am glad you came around and I have had the opportunity to read your a little of your story here, I am quite newly vegan, had been vegetarian for a few years but I took the plunge at the beginning of this year and I haven’t looked back, Living free is a beautiful analogy. My daughter Ruby has a lot in common with you, both her and her partner Josie have batted with the same eating disorder, they are now both vegan too. I look forward to following you and reading more. Blessings to you 🙂

Hello Amy, thank you for liking my blog post “Start the day right” My body does not tolerate casein, gluten and wheat, and I can only tolerate small amounts of highly fermentable carbs( beans, lentils, onions…). I cannot have dairy, and do eat flesh from pastured animals who live on a small local farm, and bone broth as my body needs LOTS of minerals. I applaud your courage to find what makes you well, and look forward to reading more of your journey.

Great Blog!, look forward to reading more. I have friends who are in recovery now and leading a much healthier life, but as you know its not all about food, its social occasions, even being in a shop, that can throw your confidence. My friend is so much better after telling a small group of us who are now closer than ever, as we bonded from being ‘big sisters’ to her, and helping her.
My friend, who still has knockbacks but can get up from them easier now, has taken on a role of Counsellor and mentor to young girls through an eating disorder charity. I think this challenge has given her more support than anything else.
